Strength and Energy
Lisa Mauriello is a Holistic Health Counselor, Nutritional Advisor, and avid Boxer. Years ago she noticed that the field of athletics was lacking a very important component for the health of their athletes. Most athletes think they eat correctly, when really, what they are fed is misleading information, as is most of the general population in America today.
Carbohydrates
This article is dedicated to the subject of carbohydrates.
Choose good carbs, not no carbs. Whole grains are your best bet.
By looking at the delicate, thin bodies of Japanese people who consume high carbohydrate diets composed of large amounts of rice and starchy vegetables, it is impossible to conclude that all carbs lead to weight gain.
Don't be misled by fad diets that make blanket pronouncements on the dangers of carbohydrates. They provide the body with fuel it needs for physical activity and for proper organ function, and they are an important part of a healthy diet. But some kinds of carbohydrates are far better than others.
People are gaining weight today because they eat too much chemicalized, artificial junk food and consume too much caffeine, sugar, nicotine and alcohol.
Whole grains are some of the best sources of nutritional support, containing high levels of dietary fiber and B vitamins. Because the body absorbs them slowly, grains provide long-lasting energy.
The best sources of carbohydrates - whole grains, vegetables, fruits and beans - promote good health by delivering vitamins, minerals, fiber, and a host of important phytonutrients. Easily digested carbohydrates from white bread, white rice, pastries, sugared sodas, and other highly processed foods may contribute to weight gain, interfere with weight loss, and promote diabetes and heart disease.
The following are complex carbs that absorb slowly into the blood stream and will create a long lasting supply of energy through out the day:
All Beans, New Potatoes, Dark Green Leafy Veggies, Brown Rice, Millet, Amareth, Long Grain Wild Rice, Oat Meal (not instant).
Remember this rule of thumb: Do not eat anything that is WHITE, such as Idaho potatoes, white rice, white bread, white sugar, anything that labels it refined or enriched.
Welcome to your Health, and Good Eating.
